Job Description: Piping Project Lead

Position Summary
The Piping Project Lead serves as the primary execution focal point for piping inspection and integrity programs within the Asset Integrity department. The role's purpose is to accelerate the planning, coordination, and delivery of piping integrity activities, ensuring programs are executed efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
This position is responsible for converting Asset Integrity strategies and inspection plans into practical, executable field work scopes. By providing field leadership and managing contractor interfaces, the Piping Project Lead enables the department to eliminate execution bottlenecks, maintain API 570 compliance, and provide reliable inspection data to engineering functions. The role acts as the single point of contact between contractors, Operations, Engineering, Inspection, QA/QC, and NDT teams to align priorities and schedules.
Main Accountabilities
1. Piping Integrity Execution Leadership & Field Oversight
- Lead the planning and execution of piping inspection activities based on Asset Integrity priorities.
- Provide on-site leadership to ensure inspections follow approved procedures and applicable codes (API 570).
- Identify and remove bottlenecks impacting progress and resolve execution-related non-conformances.
- Ensure all inspection deliverables are complete, traceable, and auditable.
2. Inspection Program Planning & Stakeholder Coordination
- Develop execution plans that include scope sequencing, access requirements, isolation, and resource mobilization.
- Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, and NDT teams to align scope and schedules.
- Monitor contractor performance regarding safety, quality, and schedule compliance.
- Track progress and escalate risks that may impact delivery.
3. Data Handover & Integrity Support
- Ensure the accurate and timely handover of inspection reports and records to the Engineering team.
- Coordinate follow-up actions, such as repairs or re-inspections, resulting from inspection findings.
4. Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Enforce safety and regulatory compliance across all piping activities.
- Exercise the authority to stop and escalate work in the event of unsafe or non-compliant execution.
- Support efforts to reduce inspection backlogs and improve overall execution processes.
Position Authorities
- Execution & Coordination: Authority to plan and prioritize piping inspection activities and act as the single execution focal point for all internal and external stakeholders.
- Safety & Compliance: Authority to stop work for unsafe conditions, procedural non-compliance, or quality deviations.
- Enforcement: Authority to enforce compliance with API 570 requirements and company HSEQ standards.
Position Requirements
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Education: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
- Certification: Mandatory API 570 certification.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of API 570 Piping Inspection Code, ASME B31 piping codes, and API RP 571 Damage Mechanisms.
- Interface Knowledge: Familiarity with API 579/ASME FFS-1 and workflows for piping repair and integrity.
Skills & Experience
- Experience: 8–12 years in piping inspection, integrity management, or inspection execution leadership.
- Proven Track Record: Experience in leading projects, contractor coordination, field execution, and delivery of inspection campaigns.
- Leadership: Strong planning, prioritization, and execution leadership skills.
- Communication: Clear and structured communication style when dealing with Operations and contractors.
