Job Summary:
We are seeking a Supervisor with deep expertise in diesel engines and motors to manage a team of 10 mechanics in the oil and gas industry. The ideal candidate must have extensive hands-on experience in disassembling, repairing, and re-assembling diesel engines of various types and sizes. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of diesel-powered machinery and equipment, ensuring they operate efficiently and safely in the demanding conditions of the oil and gas sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision & Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of 10 mechanics responsible for the maintenance and repair of diesel engines.
- Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and ensure all work is completed in line with safety standards and deadlines.
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to mechanics as needed.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review performance, discuss challenges, and establish clear action plans.
Diesel Engine Maintenance & Repair:
- Oversee and perform comprehensive maintenance on various types of diesel engines/motors used in the oil and gas sector, such as those found in pumps, generators, drilling rigs, and compressors.
- Be able to disassemble, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble diesel engines from scratch, ensuring all components are properly serviced.
- Ensure all engines meet operational standards by following industry-specific protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Diagnose complex engine issues, using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify root causes of failures.
Planning & Execution:
- Develop maintenance schedules for preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, reducing downtime and extending engine life.
- Monitor and manage parts inventory, ensuring the availability of necessary components for repairs.
- Plan and execute engine overhauls, including coordinating with other departments and ensuring the availability of manpower and materials.
- Ensure all repair work is documented, following internal procedures, and reporting accurately to management.
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Ensure that all safety protocols and regulations are strictly followed during engine maintenance and repair activities.
- Conduct safety briefings and ensure the team is aware of all hazards related to diesel engine repair in an oil and gas environment.
- Participate in HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) audits and inspections, and ensure that all maintenance work complies with industry safety standards.
- Identify potential risks and implement solutions to mitigate them in all engine-related operations.
Problem Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Quickly respond to and resolve emergency mechanical failures, minimizing downtime.
- Work under pressure in emergency repair situations, troubleshooting engine issues on-site.
- Collaborate with other departments (e.g., electrical, instrumentation) for integrated troubleshooting when necessary.
Key Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications in diesel engine maintenance and repair would be highly desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience working with diesel engines in the oil and gas, marine, or heavy equipment sectors.
- Proven experience supervising a team of mechanics (preferably 5+ years in a supervisory role).
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, including engine types used in heavy-duty oil and gas applications such as Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Perkins.
Skills:
- Expert knowledge of diesel engines/motors, including their pulling out, repair, and re-assembly processes.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve issues with various diesel engine components such as fuel systems, injectors, turbochargers, cooling systems, and more.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools related to diesel engines.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to guide and motivate a team.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and repair.
