Your main responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer (M/F) who will be responsible for the technical supervision and leadership of the mechanical engineering team. He/She will provide technical support and supervision for the design of mechanical systems and components in all areas of the company's operations (mine site, OPP, plant site, off-site sites, TMF and any other company facility), ensuring that they meet safety, quality and operational requirements.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer (M/F) is also responsible for ensuring that all designs, modifications and projects comply with relevant company, regulatory and industry standards and codes. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will help ensure the integrity of all mechanical engineering functions. He/she collaborates with the Mechanical Manager and Senior Area Engineer in resource allocation, and provides integrated engineering solutions to meet business needs for all OPEX and CAPEX projects, as well as for all plant engineering and modifications.

The main tasks will be :

  • Technical supervision: Provide technical supervision and support to the mechanical engineering team, ensuring that all designs and modifications are technically sound and meet industry standards and best practices
  • Mechanical Design: Supervise the design of mechanical systems and components, including material selection, stress analysis, and equipment and component sizing and specification. Ensure that all designs meet safety, quality, and operational requirements
  • Standards and Codes Compliance: Ensure that all designs, modifications, and projects comply with relevant industry standards and codes, including ASME, ANSI, and API codes
  • Project Discipline Engineering Management: Provide supervisory support on all mechanical engineering projects from conception to completion, including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management and deliverables
  • Problem Solving: The Senior Mechanical Engineer should have strong problem-solving skills and be able to identify and address complex technical issues related to mechanical engineering design and construction
  • Coordination with Other Disciplines, departments and functions: Work closely with other discipline heads, departments and functions within the company to ensure that all engineering deliverables are integrated and coordinated
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including project managers, operations staff maintenance staff, and contractors. Provide regular updates on project status and technical issues
  • Team Management: Supervise a team of mechanical engineers and designers, providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching to ensure high performance and job satisfaction
  • Continuous Improvement: The Senior Mechanical Engineer should be committed to continuous improvement and be able to identify opportunities to optimize mechanical engineering processes and systems to enhance safety, quality, and operational performance
  • Establish and maintain a high technical level in all aspects of Mechanical engineering throughout the company
  • Assignment of mechanical engineering work to named staff to fulfill plant/mine/pipeline requirements
  • Establish/write procedures necessary for mechanical engineering according to international norms
  • Ensure the training of national engineers and their oversight by senior staff (level 1 /level 2 approval)
  • Establish a mentoring program
  • Ensure the timely delivery of work to projects and running plant
  • Demonstrate responsible management of resources (staff versus contractor) in cost-effective manner. Ensure team at all times has right balance of competence/experience/availability
  • Ensure contractors deliver work according to requirements with attention to quality / timeliness

      Your background

      Education :

      • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field - University educated B. Eng (Mech)./ B.Sc. Eng (Mech) or higher
      • Professionally registered Engineer with an internationally recognized Institute. (I.Mech.E.) or ECSA Pr.Eng. , P.E or equivalent (Preferred)

              Skills :

              • Experience in the mining, minerals processing, petrochemicals, oil & gas industrial sectors
              • Mechanical Design: Strong knowledge and experience in mechanical design, including material selection, stress analysis, and component sizing
              • Knowledge of materials of construction, welding, rolling, heat treatment
              • Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes, including ASME, ANSI, and API codes3
              • Strong project engineering management skills including scope definition, budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management
              • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
              • Ability to work and provide supervision in a multi-cultural/ diverse team of mechanical engineers and designers, providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching to ensure high performance and job satisfaction
              • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
              • Fitness for service calculations (API579 or equivalent)
              • Mechanical stress calculations (empirical)
              • Mechanical equipment and component design and specification
              • Turnaround experience (large complex turnarounds > 20 days)

              Codes and Standards :

              • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) - ASME VIII div 1 & 2, NACE,NORSOK
              • ASME Piping specifications and standards (B31.3, B16.5, B16.9, etc.)
              • API standards 650, 620, 510, 570, 653 and 579, 693, 692, 619, 618, etc

              Experience

              • At least 8 - 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with atleast the last 10 years in mechanical design, of which a minimum of 5 years as a Senior mechanical Engineer
